Make Replacing Out-of-Support Operating Systems Your 2024 Priority

Written by Ethan Douglas | Nov 30, 2023

Throughout 2023, many server operating systems, such as Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2, desktop operating systems, such as Windows 8.1, as well as productivity platforms such as Office 2013, all reached Microsoft End-of-Support.

Sometimes referred to as “end of life”, when a Microsoft product reaches the end of support, there will be no new security updates, non-security updates, or assisted support available on the product. This means that there will be no patches, security updates or support from Microsoft

As a result, organizations that continue to use devices running such software are sitting ducks for security vulnerabilities. Should a malicious actor find a vulnerability in the code, they can exploit it to potentially gain access and/or steal data, and a fix for this exploit may never come.

As a result, everyone is encouraged to create a plan for upgrading to the latest version of the product or service available, whether on-premise, locally installed, or cloud based. Not sure where to start?  Talk to your Client Success Coordinator or Client Success Manager to assess your situation and begin creating a remediation plan today.
